As we start the conversation and actual work toward building our capstone sites, it's important to remember that this journey has been one we've all been on together. Although our experiences and takeaways were certainly different, the assignments and the outcome hoped for were the same. I assume we have all become different teachers, looking at ourselves, our students, and our roles in education differently. One of my goals upon completing this program is to continue, whenever and however it makes sense, to incorporate digital tools into my classroom and to allow for student voice to be heard. I've seen that although mastery of standards may not always be the end result when students use digital tools and get to have input into what they study, it does cause higher interest and engagement. Perhaps, over time, the correlation between mastery of standards and engagement will be evident.
As a cohort member in this Innovative Learning program, my expectations are that my classmates will give me honest and helpful feedback and be respectful of deadlines. After all, we are professional educators who should model the traits and behaviors we desire in our students. Our varied backgrounds, approaches, and goals will prove very helpful in looking at each others' capstone content with critical eyes in order to help improve the work and its aesthetics. Additionally, we will continue to learn from each other.
